How to make your employee app a success!

More and more companies are turning to employee apps to reach all internal target groups and improve internal communication. But how do you ensure that your app is not only installed, but also actively used? We gained positive experience with the following activities:

1. Raffles

Small gifts not only keep friendships alive, but also interest in your employee app. By giving away attractive prizes such as vouchers, gift baskets, technical equipment or giveaways with the company logo, you motivate your employees to log into the app regularly and participate actively. Taking part in surveys or a quiz can also be rewarded in this way. With an advent calendar, there is something to win every day, which ensures continuous interaction over four weeks.

2. Photo contest

A photo contest is a great way to get colleagues involved who might be a bit reserved about using the employee app. It’s important to choose a topic that everyone can contribute to. If it also fits with your company’s strategy, great!

Idea 1: Send your product on vacation with your employees – if possible – and collect unique photos from around the world.

Idea 2: If sustainability plays a role in your company, you could award a prize for the most beautiful nature shots.

Idea 3: Combine your wellbeing topics with the feel-good factor of pets – if this is possible in your corporate culture. Cat content will also give your employee app the expected reach.

The best entries can be rewarded or presented in a video summary. Photo contests strengthen the community spirit and make the use of the employee app an emotional experience.

3. Encourage your editorial team

A dedicated editorial team is the key driver of any successful employee app. Help the team find relevant topics and present them in an exciting way. Provide them with training and best practices. Establish formats to show appreciation for the editors’ work. After all, they are often working on the app on top of their main job. It’s also worth setting up a structured onboarding process for new editorial team members.

In summary: an employee app has to be fun!

Employees will only use the app regularly and read the important topics if it is interesting and entertaining to use.
